These were created when our eldest minibeast was sitting her GCSE exams this summer. She had struggled with anxiety through her two sets of mocks and we wanted a way of supporting her. Affirmations are a great way of doing this but, obviously, she couldn't read it whilst she was in her exams as she would have been kicked out for potential cheating so we needed a way that she could feel that love instead....and this is what we came up with.
Made out of 3mm ply she had 6 weeks worth (we now have a LOT of different quotes to choose from!) and each morning she was given a flag which she read, gave us a hug, and then popped in her blazer pocket and, if she got stressed during the exam, she could give her pocket a squeeze and feel the love that we had for her. In the evening she would add in onto the string we had up across our kitchen with the previous bunting flags and it created a wonderful display for her - which we still have up in the kitchen.
Her feedback was that she found them really helpful - not just for the quote but because she could physically feel the flag in her pocket which reminded her she was not alone and was going to be ok. We showcased them on our Facebook page each day as well and another mum purchased some from us - a smaller size and only a couple of weeks worth for her daughter's A levels and recently I saw a picture of her daughter's new university digs - and lo and behold - the bunting was strung above her desk space which made us VERY happy as you can imagine.
